This year, the Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee is proud to announce that Luis A. Casanova has been selected to represent himself and the Club as a member of the Youth of the Year Class of 2012!

Here is Luis' story:

"My name is Luis A. Casanova, and I was born in Manati, Puerto Rico.  I currently reside in Chicopee, MA.  I'm seventeen, and live with my mother and older brother.  I attend Chicopee High School and I am in my Junior year.  Education is very important to me.  I'm a C/2lt (Cadet Second Lieutenant) in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at my high school.  I volunteer a lot of my time for the Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee.  I have been a member of the Club for 7 years and I truly believe that it is a positive place for kids to be.  When I am not volunteering my time, I am assisting my mother with household chores.  I like to play basketball and video games with my friends.  I am a huge fan of the Boston Celtics, and I have a passion for Nike sneakers.  I have two best friends that are very honest with me.  They are as devoted to education as I am.  Edmond Torres and Wascar Berroa have always been there for me so I make it a point to be there for them as much as I possibly can.  I met them at the Boys & Girls Club.  I believe that it is important to do for others and give what you can.  The best part is seeing the outcome of what one has done for another."

Luis will be recognized at the State Youth of the Year dinner on Thursday, May 17th, aboard the Battleship Massachusetts docked in Fall River, MA.

He will also attend the Western Massachusetts Youth of the Year Dinner on Thursday, May 31st, at the Ludlow Country Club.

Join us in wishing Luis success, both in the Youth of the Year competition and in his future.

The Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee...

great futures

The Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee has been a cornerstone of the community since opening it doors in 1912.  Serving youth from 5 - 18 years of age, the Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee provides a safe, structured, and positive environment in its two locations.  We serve children before and after school, during holiday vacations, and over summer vacation.  The Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee is part of a nationwide network.  Located in every state, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and U.S. military installations overseas, Boys & Girls Clubs are delivering proven programs to millions of young people daily.

This year, we mark our 100th Anniversary of providing services to the youth of Chicopee.

Now, more than ever, they need us.  And we need you.
